Terms & Privacy

What this is

The Atrium is a work of imagination — a game in which historical thinkers are reconstructed from their writings to think alongside you. These are not real people, and what they say are simulations, not genuine counsel. The experience is for reflection and exploration only. It is not philosophical, psychological, medical, legal, or financial advice of any kind. The responsibility for what you do with it is yours.

AI and Claude

Live, in-character answers are generated by Anthropic's Claude API. When you use a live AI feature, the words you submit for that turn are sent to Anthropic to generate a response. Offline answers are generated on our server from fixed templates and are not sent to any AI provider. Please don't enter sensitive personal information.

What we store

We do not sell your data.

Payments

Purchases of credits are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details — only a record that a purchase occurred, so we can add the credits to your account.

Deleting your data

Use the Forget me control in the top bar at any time. If you're signed in, it erases your name, email, and purchase records and ends your session. We retain one minimal, anonymized detail — that your account previously used its free allowance — solely so the free trial cannot be reset by forgetting and signing in again; any credits you purchased are kept for you. It also clears everything saved in your browser (your name, the "Last Question" answers, your progress, your Commonplace Book, and the Mirror). This cannot be undone.

If you are in distress

This is not a crisis or counseling service. If you are struggling, please reach out to someone you trust, a trained professional, or your local crisis line or emergency services.

No warranty

The Atrium is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, and may be unavailable or change at any time. We may update these terms; continued use means you accept the current version.
